World solar architecture expertees analyze the keys of the sustainable construction

28.03.2012

Last Tuesday a discussion about sustainable architecture with the title “Efficiency, Incorporation and opportunity of the Renewable Energy in the Architecture” took place in the ETSAM. Organized by the European Project 10 Action, in collaboration with Solar Decathlon Europe (SDE), more than 100 people attended this meeting, which counted with the participation of the Austrian Professor Georg W. Reinberg, pioneer in solar architecture and energetically efficient buildings; and the German Professor Karsten Voss from Wuppertal University, International Energy Agent consultant of Nearly Zero Emission Buildings.

The first one to speak was Proffesor Georg W. Reinberg, who opened his speech insisting on the importance of the weather conditions for the efficient construction, which he illustrated with a comparison of these in different countries. Then, the Austrian Professor showed the right keys to a perfect housing rehabilitation in order to get a solar active house with the best efficiency as possible. “We have to react, reduce energy consumption in homes. To achieve this, we need not only a new way of architecture but also an awareness of architects”, he concluded.

Professor Karsten Voss presented the book Net Zero Energy Buildings, which shows different sustainable and near-zero energy consumption projects worldwide, including some of the ones that competed in past editions of Solar Decathlon. “The most important thing – said Professor Voss- is that buildings move from being simple consumers for consumers and prosumers. We have to change the electricity system in Europe to obtain an electrical network (Smart Grid) where everyone participates, where the consumers produce and consume at the same time.

Professor Sergio Vega, Project Manager of Solar Decathlon Europe, closed the ceremony highlighting the importance of this conference. “The aim of these activities is to spread the innovations and the SDE prototypes technologies and to raise awareness among architects to more energy efficient solutions, promoting the improvement of the sustainability of our buildings and cities”, he said.

This meeting is part of the activities of the project 10Action, financed by the Programme Intelligent Energy Europe and intended to bring about a change in the attitudes of European’s citizens in the fields of consumption, use and production of energy.
