Madrid, 04 May 2012

From 8th to 11th May, Solar Decathlon Europe (SDE) will exhibit the 20 models of homes participating in its 2012 edition, within the framework of Construtec -International Construction Week (stand 5c17, Hall 5). These models are a true reproduction of the sustainable houses that will be powered exclusively by solar energy and built life-size in September at Madrid’s Casa de Campo, where the greatest advances in solar and sustainable technology can be seen free of charge.

Additionally, and together with the Tecma Group network, Solar Decathlon Europe is organizing the Ist Congress on Nearly Zero Emissions Buildings (EECN), which will take place on 7th and 8th May in IFEMA’s South Auditorium (South Gate). The event will be looking at ways of achieving buildings that consume almost no energy within a time-span of just under ten years. This first edition of the Congress is intended to be a discussion forum to address the implications adoption of the European Directive on the Energy Efficiency of Buildings will have on the construction industry, architecture and related services (Directive 31/2010/EU).

Finally, at 10 a.m. on May 9th, Solar Decathlon Europe will hold the second edition of the program of Multi-Disciplinary Teams in Building ProjectsSustainable Building -, (Forum zone in IFEMA’s Hall 5 ), where the aim is to give a vision of sustainable building projects from the point of view of the different parties taking part in them. Efforts will also be made to delve into how they interrelate and coordinate to get these projects underway, and how sustainable systems implementation affects their labour relations.

All these Solar Decathlon Europe activities, within the framework of International Construction Week – Construtec – form part of the project’s main objective: promoting research and development in sustainable construction and educating the population about the efficient use of renewable and sustainable energies and obtaining all required energy from the Sun.
