THE COMPETITION ‘MORE WITH LESS’ (emissions), PROMOTED BY THE UNIVERSIDAD POLITÉCNICA DE MADRID ANNOUNCES ITS WINNERS

●      “MORE with LESS (emissions)” is part of the SDE and 10Action energy efficiency project.

●      The aim of this European Project is to raise awareness about the need to use renewable energies and make responsible use of energy, and to promote energy efficiency and sustainability by disseminating knowledge gained during the Solar Decathlon Europe competition.


Madrid, 24 May 2012-. Now that the competition MORE with LESS (emissions), promoted by The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), leader of the European project 10Action, intended to bring about a change in the attitudes of Europe’s citizens in the fields of consumption, use and production of energy,has ended,  prizes have been adjudicated and will be awarded during Architecture Day at Solar Decathlon Europe 2012, in Madrid, next September. This competition was aimed at all the European university students of Architecture, Engineering, Design, and related studies.

First prize in the Urban and Territorial Intervention category was awarded to the project: “It used to be landfill” by Nicolás Mariné and Lucía Mazaré Durio. Meanwhile, the projects “Self-Sufficient Water Device” by Fernando Arocha and Ángela Bailén, “Green Lantern” by Carlos García, Alejandro González and Tomás Pineda, and “Section Works” by Álvaro López, Carlos Sánchez and Joaquín Santiago have obtained special mentions in the Architecture/ Building Typologies category. Making up the jury were: Luis Fernández-Galiano, Georg W. Reinberg y Karsten Voss. The award ceremony will take place during Architecture Day at Solar Decathlon Europe 2012, in Madrid, next September.

‘MORE with LESS (emissions)’ is organized by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and the Austrian Energy Agency (Austria) and is sponsored by Schneider Electric and is part of the activities of the 10Action project, financed by the Intelligent Energy Europe programme.

10Action

The aim of the European project ‘10Action’ is to raise awareness about the need to use renewable energies and make responsible use of energy, and to promote energy efficiency and sustainability by disseminating knowledge gained during the Solar Decathlon Europe competition.  For this reason, some activities for children, teenagers, students, professionals of the building sector and general public are being developed all around Europe

10Action is led by the UPM and financed by the Intelligent Energy Europe programme. Its partners are the Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany), the Austrian Energy Agency (Austria), the Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía (Spain), Equipo de Marketing (Spain), the Center for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (Greece) and the Agência para a Energia (Portugal).

Solar Decathlon Europe

Solar Decathlon Europe (SDE) is the most prestigious competition on sustainable and solar houses in which universities from all over the world participate. At the moment, the 2012 edition, the most international edition held so far, is being organized. 20 teams from 14 countries are taking part in it: Germany, Brazil, China, Denmark, Egypt, Spain, France, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Romania.

Solar Decathlon Europe is organized by General Direction of Architecture, Housing and Land of Ministry of Public Works with the collaboration of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the support of the US Department of Energy. In addition, SDE has the collaboration of the Madrid City Council and Spanish Energy Saving Energy Agency IDAE, the sponsorship of Schneider Electric, Kömmerling and FCC, and official partners AENA, ADIF, RENFE, INECO y FEVE.
