RHÔNE ALPES WINNER OF THE ARCHITECTURE CONTEST

-          RWTH Aachen University (Germany) receives the second prize and  Med in Italy (Italy), the third.

Madrid, 19 th of September of 2012. The Solar Decathlon Europe competition kicks off with the prize-giving ceremony of the Architecture contest of the competition. Villa Solar opened its doors to public six days ago residing so far over 19.000 visitors. Entrance is free of charge.

RHÔNE ALPES TEAM (FRANCE)  wins the first Price in this contest with their house:”Canopea”, an original and innovative design.

Susana Torre, Mario Cucinella, and José María Lapuerta Montoya, jury of this contest, have evaluated the territorial strategy, the quality and the appealing of the architectonic design of each house, it´s coherence and most important, the combination of comfortable and functional spaces with technologies and bioclimatic strategies that reduce the energy consumption. For instance,among other specific aspects the use of artificial and natural light has been evaluated.

In addition, the ONCE Foundation and CERMI awarded  an extra prize (no scoring for the competition): the house´s accessibility, which went again to the team Rhone-Alpes (France) Canopea, to be the most appropriate designed house to be for  present and future needs of  people. The organizers invite all people with disabilities to know this model and the remaining housing that make the Villa Solar.

On Saturday 29th,  the Solar House winner of the present edition of Solar Decathlon Europe will be announced during the closing ceremony.

Solar Decathlon Europe is organized by the Ministry of Public Works, Madrid City Council and the Madrid Polytechnic University (UPM) via its Higher Technical School of Arquitecture (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid). Its main sponsors are Schneider Electric and Kömmerling, & its official collaborators include AENA, ADIF, RENFE, INECO y FEVE. It is also supported by the US Departament of Energy and  the  IDAE.
