The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) was the first European university to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon in the 2005 edition. Since then it has competed two more times, in 2007 and 2009, before becoming responsible of the organization of SDEurope. Here you will find links to the websites of the three UPM’s houses.

-Casa Solar (2007)
-Black & White House (2009): Go to the project web
Currently the “Magic Box” house (UPM solar house of 2005) is located in China; selected by the Popular Republic of China to take part in the Beijing Future House Demo Park exhibition. A twin version of it is been used as a test facility at the Telecommunications faculty, in the Moncloa Campus. The City of Rivas Vaciamadrid has built in 2010 a permanent, enlarged version of the Magic Box with important improvements in the Plaza Ecópolis area. There are two units of the “Casa Solar” (UPM solar house of 2007) which are been used for research activities in the Montegancedo Campus, as well as the “Black & White House” (UPM solar house of 2009).
The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid continues its work in these fields. Although it will not compete in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011 to concentrate efforts in the European 2012 edition, new prototypes are being built to test new developments. That is the case of the SD10 prototype, introduced in Madrid’s Villa Solar in June 2010, where it was used as part of the Organization’s headquarters.
