The page that you are currently browsing is the new SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE website. With the beginning of the new year, we wanted to modernize and improve the first point of contact that the university community and general public have with the competition. This competition will be held outside the United States for the first time, and come June 2010, Madrid will be hosting 20 teams participating in a competition that serves to educate the greater public this side of the Atlantic on the use of renewable energies and the importance of energy efficiency.
The new SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE website reflects the spirit of the competition: modernity and efficiency. The site has been developed with a modern and attractive touch. It is dynamic, uses substantial multimedia content, and is visually accessible with each section designed using a distinct color to easily identify the theme of its contents. The most important of those contents are highlighted on the homepage, but other material is equally available with a simple click on the menu, which is available at the top of every page.
The new site makes it easy to access information about the SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE, to learn about previous editions of the SD AMERICA competition, find details about the competition in 2010, as well as to read about the university teams that will be participating in the competition and the institutions supporting and sponsoring the competition.
The new SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE website doesn't just stop there. It also serves as a vehicle for promoting the participating teams, allowing audiences to learn about their homes, sharing their structural approaches, their construction methods and their innovative technologies with the world. It also serves as a central media database, where all the information about the competition is stored and readily available. It provides the first point of contact for all persons interested in volunteering at the SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE, and for those wanting to contact the organizers or participate in the competition activities.
The website will prove ever more useful and dynamic during the competition itself. Throughout the month of June, it will serve as the source of all information and updates, including real-time monitoring of teams' scores, daily updates on the teams' rankings, as well as live streaming of each house through webcams installed at the 'Solar Village.'
The new SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE site was created here, but with the intention of growing continuously. In the coming months, we'll be adding updates and new features, gaining momentum for the big event – the competition itself. This website already plays a fundamental role in the journey which we share with our audience: with the propelling force of the Sun, the SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE adventure has begun!
