The main characteristics of Solar Decathlon Europe´s houses are one, being auto sufficient and two, sharing the sun as the only energy source. It is also mandatory that they cover all the necessities of the habitants of the houses using the minimum resources. In the Energy Efficiency Contest, this issue is analyzed in detail.
Karsten Voss, Ignacio Fernández-Solla y Marija Todorović, jury of this contest, after evaluated the exterior skin´s design, the “passive” and “active” systems, the household appliances and energy saving systems and the systems of control and use of the overall house energy, have appointed Andalucía Team (Spain) as winner of the Energy Efficiency Contest.
PATIO 2.12 is a new concept in self-sustaining modular house, based on the concept of “Spaces kit” and “intermediate scale of prefabrication” creating a domestic space through the use of modules that are neither the whole house or a constructive component, not a room but a housing set (a group of compatible uses). The prototype proposes a domestic space alternative by the addition of “pavilions” around an intermediate space, the “patio”, which receives the expansions of the rooms around it, without needing the partitioning by walls.
